The official currency of the Czech Republic is the koruna which is abbreviated to CZK; however in English Czech currency is sometimes referred to as the ‘Czech crown’. As a member of the EU, the Czech Republic is legally-bound to adopt the use of the euro in the future. The planned transition of the koruna to the euro was set for 2010, but was postponed due to low popularity, with only 16% of Czech Republic citizens favouring the introduction of the euro. 1 Koruna is divided into 100 haleru, with the most popular bills being the 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 notes.
